BURNT UMBER BROKEN SILVER AMERICAN SPIRIT | Verse

Artist Cortright's new series BURNT UMBER BROKEN SILVER AMERICAN SPIRIT, created for SOLOS, releases two works per week indefinitely and is structured as a sequence of "rooms," each marking a transition to a new series. The compositions overlay abstract shapes on American landscapes, which the artist describes as portals between states of being or consciousness, and fires alongside idyllic scenery serve as metaphors for the polarising aspects of life in America. Her palette draws on the candy-coated hues of early internet graphics, and she builds layered images in Photoshop that merge stock images, digital brush strokes and glitch effects. Her work has been acquired by MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art and LACMA.
