Cloudflare’s public IPFS gateways and supporting Interplanetary Shipyard

AI summary of the linked article

Cloudflare announced it will transition traffic from its public IPFS gateway to the IPFS Foundation's gateway, maintained by the Interplanetary Shipyard ("Shipyard") team, starting May 14, 2024. Traffic using the cloudflare-ipfs.com or cf-ipfs.com hostnames will keep working and redirect to ipfs.io or dweb.link until August 14, 2024, after which users must switch to ipfs.io or dweb.link to avoid service interruption. Cloudflare says the transition will boost ecosystem collaboration, increase protocol resiliency, and ensure healthy stewardship and governance, and that it will continue sponsoring Shipyard's work as a gateway steward. The post also states that the change does not alter the amount or type of end-user information visible to Cloudflare, the IPFS Foundation, or Shipyard.

Yeah I missed Cloudflare discontinuing their IPFS gateway on August 14th and found out because several DNS links weren’t resolving. Spend an hour today fixing it. So be warned!

Anyway they advertise it like it’s a good thing and they are still supporters of IPFS but somehow can’t escape that it feels bad. Also because I can find no other way to resolve DNS url to IPFS.

Only one way now for pretty IPFS url and that’s ENS. But if someone has any suggestions I’m happy to hear that. (No not unstoppable domains haha)
