This to me is already a pretty bad outcome that also threatens cognitive liberty. I listened to JD Vance and I hoped that the transgender topic was more campaign promise than later strictly enforced. I actually do understand why a state would implement a strict nomenclature regime, OK. But this goes beyond that. I find the motivation of the order interesting as this mostly targets in, my interpretation, men that want a right to enter female exclusive spaces. I feel like, with that way of framing, it could already produce some interesting Cobraeffects in the next four years. Also, I was surprised how clearly this reads. I somehow always thought that political press releases are boring and bureaucratic. This reads like a specification or a technical design document. The executive order’s focus on enforcing strict biological definitions and eliminating alternative viewpoints feels like authoritarian messaging controlling language and defining truth. The order mandates the removal of certain language and requires specific definitions in all government communications. Maybe Trump needs a Ministry of Truth and introduce some ‘doublethink’ and ‘newspeak’. | |
