Flywheel is a proposed onchain protocol that would connect advertisers and publishers, with attribution recording which channel a user came from so that publishers can earn a share of user lifetime value. The authors argue that Web3 needs a scalable way to turn money into attention and back again, and that current tools such as airdrops, quests and referral programs fall short. They point to an attribution study of quests run during the first Base Onchain Summer, where about 63% of users who did quests completed both Layer3 and Galxe quests, so simple onchain tagging would count those users twice or three times. The article says Flywheel's advertiser interface resembles The Trade Desk or Facebook, and that the attribution provider acts as a neutral party for the advertiser.
