Galaxy brain resistance

Vitalik Buterin argues that galaxy brain resistance, meaning how hard a style of reasoning is to abuse for justifying conclusions already reached for other reasons, is an important property of arguments. He contends that arguments with low resistance, such as inevitabilism, longtermism and aesthetic-based bans, are common and often function as rationalization rather than reasoning. He gives the example of "if everyone is going to automate, we should hasten it," which he says can justify disemployment, and says longtermist stories about distant benefits can justify almost anything because they cannot be checked against near-term results.
