I knew the feed was personalized, but I had never heard about the comments. I understand why they do it ofc but it's pretty scary. And it's scary because social media - contrary to traditional media - gives you a sense of objectivity. "It's not only this journalist; other people support this view." And, of course, if you follow a profile like "Flat Earth fans," it's obvious that most comments will support the Flat Earth theory. In other words, following such a profile is not that far from subscribing to a Flat Earth magazine. Therefore, as a social media user, you shouldn't feel this sense of objectivity. But if you follow a neutral profile like "Planet Earth," you might feel, "Well, this is kind of objective." So, if you see comments supporting Flat Earth, you might get the feeling that it's a more widely held belief than it is. It's not a big problem with Flat Earth, but it's pretty impactful when we consider politics, science, or economics.
