Open Letter to the Community: Saving KnownOrigin’s NFTs

NFT.Storage and Pob Studio announced a joint effort to preserve the metadata and media files of NFTs on KnownOrigin, which is shutting down. Their Preserve Initiative, run by Pob Studio, would put NFT metadata on decentralized storage such as IPFS and Filecoin. For V1 and V2 contracts, they propose a single baseURI update requiring no artist action, V3 would be corrected by a contract modification, and V4 artists would need to implement a tokenURI change. They also offer artists backup through NFT.Storage at $2.99 per GB, and they ask the community to help locate custodians of critical private keys.
