Actually the Signal desktop app has a significant security issue regarding encryption of stored data: Messages and other data in the Signal desktop app are not encrypted at rest in a meaningful way. While the local database is technically encrypted using SQLCipher, the encryption key is stored in plaintext in a config file on the same device. This means anyone with access to the device can easily decrypt and access all stored Signal messages and data.
