Shl0ms, an anonymous conceptual artist, uses the SOLOS performance Security to satirize speculation in the art and crypto markets through financial instruments called "securities." The work unfolds across three acts: a beaten-up retro van disrupted the Frieze Art Fair in London, a proxy performer sold "securities" from a briefcase in Marfa, and a roaming vehicle will traverse the streets of Miami as the final physical sale before the series moves entirely to digital. The article describes the project as a critique of the scarcity-driven, perception-based value systems of the art world, and it points to the earlier Lamborghini destruction, in which a luxury car was fragmented into NFTs, as part of the same line of work.
