The primacy of winning (piratewires.com)

Shared originally by @dawufi. Winning is counter to the way I was raised and more and more I'm wondering how much this engrained framework is holding me back. Winning was seen as synonym with being ruthless and not caring. A lack of empathy. But that's only one way of winning.

I am very familiar with the approach described in this article. As I played sports for many years, I learned that if you want to win, you have to do whatever it takes to win (without breaking the rules of the sport, of course). And I haven't even been close to a world-class competition where people dedicate their whole lives to winning gold medals. If you think of your daily job as being an Olympic athlete, then it's natural that you'd have to sacrifice a lot to win. This approach has been famously summarized by Michael Jordan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkcU5vPJvcs&ab_channel=ToRemixAndBeyond That being said, it doesn't mean that you can't be empathetic. Jordan is the NBA's GOAT, but there have been many other great players who were pretty nice and also succeeded :)
