Brazil plans to fine anyone who tries to use X via VPN

Brazil has banned X, formerly Twitter, and plans to fine anyone who tries to access it there using workarounds such as VPNs, with fines reaching nearly $9,000 per day, according to a New York Times report. The ban followed a dispute that began when Brazil's government ordered the site to stop hosting disinformation and Elon Musk called that censorship. X had shut down its Brazil operations earlier this year, and when it did not appoint a legal representative in the country within 24 hours of a Wednesday order, X was banned.
