- EIP-7706
- ERC-7571: Shadow events
ERC-7571 is a draft Ethereum standard proposing "shadow events," which are events generated offchain in a shadow fork of an Ethereum-compatible execution client rather than logged onchain on mainnet. The proposal says shadow forks bypass gas and contract size restrictions for transactions that succeed on mainnet, so richer event data can be emitted without gas costs for mainnet users. Shadow events would be accessed through the standard eth_getLogs JSON RPC interface, and a proposed shadow_getAddresses endpoint would list shadowed contract addresses. The draft cites over 330K ETH spent on event gas fees by users, with about 21K ETH spent in a single high-activity month.
- Release Terran Rivets (v1.16.0) · ethereum/go-ethereum
Geth v1.16.0 introduces a new experimental archive node implementation that works with path-based state storage and stores all historical states. Compared with the legacy hash-based archive mode, which exceeded 20TB when syncing mainnet and required a high-speed SSD, the full mainnet state history under path-based storage is about 1.9TB, excluding the tx-by-hash and log indexes, and can be stored on a dedicated disk that need not be an SSD. The main drawback is that eth_getProof is not supported for historical blocks, as path-based storage serves state proofs only for the latest 128 blocks. The release also merges the state snapshot and trie database layer trees into a single implementation.
- ERC7715: Request permissions from wallets
This is the commit history of ERC-7715, a draft Ethereum standard for requesting permissions from wallets, maintained in a GitHub repository. The history runs from May 24, 2024, when pedrouid first committed the draft as ERC-xxxx, through a February 18, 2025 merge by SamWilsn. Contributors named in the commits include pedrouid, danfinlay, derekchiang, ilikesymmetry and lukasrosario. The listed changes include adding an erc-7710 example, renaming issuePermissions to grantPermissions, adding permission and policy interfaces, and updating key types and multikey handling.
- ERC-7673: Distinguishable base256emoji addresses
ERC-7673 is a draft Ethereum standard, authored by William Morriss, proposing that account addresses be depicted and entered as strings of 20 emoji using a base256emoji encoding instead of hexadecimal. The proposal argues that humans often fail to distinguish long hexadecimal strings, especially when they match at the beginning and end, and that this is exploited by spoofing attacks that have misled tens of thousands of ether and other tokens. Under the standard, user interfaces would be required to display addresses as base256emoji and accept them as input, and would be encouraged to recognize strings of exactly 20 valid emoji as addresses. The draft states that each emoji maps to one byte, so addresses use half as many characters, and that the encoding can be transcoded to and from hexadecimal.

- Release Bioelectric Infusers (v1.16.4) · ethereum/go-ethereum
Geth v1.16.4 enables the Osaka (Fusaka) fork on the Holesky, Sepolia and Hoodi testnets, along with two blob-parameter-only (BPO) forks on each. Osaka activates on Holesky on 2025-10-01, on Sepolia on 2025-10-14 and on Hoodi on 2025-10-28, with BPO1 and BPO2 following on each network. BPO1 raises blob capacity to a maximum of 15 blobs per block with a target of 10, and BPO2 raises it to a maximum of 21 with a target of 14. The release also sets the default block gas limit to 60M gas, which the article describes as the limit its client authors are comfortable with.
- Official reason to remove EOF from Fusaka
The author, a participant in the Ethereum protocol process, argues that EOF should be removed from Fusaka despite several client teams supporting it. Their reasons are risk to the Fusaka timeline, since debating EOF variants delays shipping PeerDAS, which all client teams see as the top priority; uncertainty about the Option D variant, whose implications some participants did not understand on the call; and failures in ACD's prioritization process, where objections from community members were not adequately addressed. The post suggests EOF's champions could make their case for Glamsterdam, and it notes that PAY was left marked as CFI'd because people wanted it included in Fusaka regardless of EOF.

- ERC proposal: Cross-Chain Messaging Gateway
ERC-7786 is a Draft proposal, authored by Francisco Giordano, Hadrien Croubois, Ernesto Garcia and CJ Cobb, that defines a standard interface for smart contracts to send arbitrary data through cross-chain messaging protocols. The proposal aims to make such protocols accessible through this interface, natively or via adapter gateways, to improve composability and reduce vendor lock-in. Its core interface includes a sender-side gateway that implements sendMessage and emits a MessagePosted event, and a receiver interface whose executeMessage function must be implemented by the receiving contract. Senders and receivers are identified with CAIP-10 account identifiers, and the payload is opaque bytes.
- EIP-9698: Exponential Gas Limit Increase
This discussion thread responds to EIP-9698, which proposes an exponential Ethereum gas limit increase. The commenter supports raising the gas limit substantially but opposes committing to an aggressive schedule for its own sake, arguing that increases should be manually agreed upon or they risk being too aggressive. They say the current 100x increase over 4 years is too aggressive and propose approaching it in steps, such as a 2x increase in the next 6 months, while agreeing that the exponential mechanism over epochs is fine. Their main concern is that if most nodes commit to the full schedule before the limit proves too high, coordinating all nodes to opt out and shut it down would be difficult.
- Geth v1.13.11 is out, includes the cancun-fork for Sepolia and Holesky
Geth v1.13.11 enables the Cancun upgrade for the Sepolia and Holesky networks, and the release notes describe the upgrade as required for anyone following either chain. Sepolia will upgrade on Jan 31 and Holesky on Feb 7. The release also adds support for EIP-4844 transactions in API methods, changes transaction indexing so that eth_syncing reports true until indexing finishes, adds a -pos flag to rlpdump, and fixes logging configuration.
- ERC7548: Open IP protocol that enables remixing of ERC721 NFTs
The ERC-7548 draft proposes a standardized way to create new intellectual property by remixing multiple existing NFTs, with each IP represented as an NFT and its relationships recorded publicly on-chain. It extends the ERC-721 standard through three modules: a remix module for minting combos from several NFTs (ERC-721 or ERC-1155), a license module that lets NFT holders grant others permission to use their NFTs in remixing, and a singleton network module that tracks parent and child relationships. The authors, Combo, Saitama, CT29 and Luigi, describe the goal as letting creators register, license and monetize content globally. The security section flags ownership and access controls, reentrancy risks, and high gas costs as concerns. The status is listed as Draft.
- ERCs are moving to a separate repository
EnsDeLiz Neuromórfica is described as an artificial neural network designed to emulate the properties and functionality of the human brain. It is said to have five layers (input, processing, analysis, spin, and output) and to adapt to new patterns without retraining and process information in parallel. A later section presents a "Red Neuronal Cuántica EnsDeLiz" with qubit layers, along with test descriptions and a Qiskit test script using the input [0.5, 0.3].
- Expose multiple injected providers: EIP-6963
EIP-6963 proposes a window-event-based pattern for discovering multiple injected EIP-1193 wallet providers, replacing the earlier EIP-5749. Unlike EIP-5749, it exposes providers in parallel rather than extending EIP-1193 with extra info, and each provider gets both a local and a global unique identifier. It omits provider descriptions to stay agnostic to localization but supports any URI-encoded icon format, such as data, IPFS, or HTTP. Reviewers raised concerns that prototype pollution remains unaddressed and that the design assumes wallets behave benevolently, and suggested a future move to PostMessage channels and externally_connectable.
- Add ERC-7846: Wallet Connection API
This is a GitHub pull request thread for ERC-7846, "Wallet Connection API," a proposed JSON-RPC method for wallet connection with extensible optional capabilities built on ERC-5792. The proposal defines one capability that combines connection and authentication into a single interaction, using Sign-In with Ethereum (ERC-4361) with changes such as camelCase field names. Commenters raised concerns that the address should not be part of the signed message for passkey wallets, which would still require two interactions, and that the design is EVM-specific while CAIP-222 covers similar functionality. Reviewers also suggested adding a wallet_disconnect method, which the thread's later comments describe as a needed addition to the existing standard. The thread ends with a note that all reviewers had approved and the pull request was being merged automatically.

- DoS via malicious p2p message
A denial-of-service vulnerability in the go-ethereum (geth) node allows a remote attacker to make a vulnerable node consume very large amounts of memory via specially crafted p2p messages. The attacker connects to the victim and sends a GetBlockHeadersRequest message with a count of 0 using the ETH protocol. Due to integer overflow in the count-1 calculation passed to GetHeadersFrom, the function receives UINT64_MAX, which bypasses maxHeadersServe and requests all headers from the latest block back to the genesis block. The fix is included in geth version 1.13.15 and later, and the issue was disclosed by DongHan Kim through the Ethereum bug bounty program.
- Release Asteria (v1.14.0) · ethereum/go-ethereum
Geth v1.14.0 (Asteria) is a major release with breaking changes, most notably switching the default state trie representation from hash mode to path mode for new full nodes. The main advantage of path mode is built-in, online historical state pruning, while existing databases keep their current format and archive nodes still run in hash mode until path archive support lands. The release also drops support for pre-merge networks, removes Clique signing and automatic pending block construction, and requires Go v1.22 or later for building.
- Release Edolus (v1.13.12) · ethereum/go-ethereum
Geth release v1.13.12 (Edolus) embeds the mainnet fork number for Cancun, which is scheduled to go live on 13th March, 2024 (unix 1710338135). The release includes the Cancun EIPs for transient storage opcodes (EIP-1153), beacon block root in the EVM (EIP-4788), shard blob transactions (EIP-4844), MCOPY (EIP-5656), SELFDESTRUCT only in the same transaction (EIP-6780), and the BLOBBASEFEE opcode (EIP-7516). It also adds refreshed Grafana dashboards for Cancun, an initial implementation of the era archive format for block data, configurable RPC request limits, and fixes for a blob transaction memory leak and minimum miner tip enforcement.
- Vitalik's first pyethereum commit from 2013-12-19
pyethereum's Block class, introduced in a commit dated 2013-12-19 by Vitalik, stores blockchain state in a Merkle trie keyed by hexadecimal-encoded addresses. It decodes a block from RLP data, checking the balance root, contract root, transaction list hash and sibling list against their stated hashes. Methods update and read balances and contract storage, compute state and contract size, and serialize the block back into RLP. The code contains bugs, such as a sibling-root check that refers to an undefined variable and a get_state_value method that uses curnode before assignment.
- Add EIP: Circuit Breaker
The EIP editors closed this pull request to add an EIP titled "Circuit Breaker" because EIPs and ERCs are being separated into distinct repositories. GitHub provides no tools to ease the move, so each pull request must be re-opened manually in the new ethereum/ERCs repository, for which the editors have published a guide. Contributors are asked to link this PR from any new pull request that has relevant history.
